Kapaa Stream Bridge

Kapaa Stream Bridge is an integral abutment bridge with a length of 192’-5” and a width of 42’-4”.  The superstructure consists of eight spliced deck bulb tee girders. Each abutment is supported by four 4’-0” diameter drilled shafts.

Due to transportation limitations, the girders were trucked to the bridge site in three segments.  The segments were spliced and post-tensioned near the bridge.  The spliced girders were then set in their final locations.   Time-dependent finite element software was used to analyze the structure through all stages of construction as well as in its completed state.
